2017 Lincoln MKZ is Perfect for Road Trips
The 2017 Lincoln MKZ is a midsize luxury sedan originally known as the Zephyr when it was launched in 2005, but which was renamed the Lincoln MKZ from the 2007 model year onwards. This year sees the 2017 model getting a mid-cycle refresh to keep things nicely current and contemporary for the next few years. It's the perfect vehicle for an enjoyable, comfortable and exciting road trip, such as luxurious journey around some of Southern California's many wonderful locations.
If there's anywhere in the country where there's really very little, if any pressure to conform in any way, it's got to be Southern California. But if you want to visit some of the swankier places on your trip such as some of the many wineries and superb restaurants in the Napa Valley, the Lincoln MKZ is more than stylish enough for you to feel like you fit right in. The familiar twin-wing grille has been discarded now and replaced by a round, trapezoidal shaped mesh grille with Lincoln’s signature four-pointed enclosed star at its center. The grille itself is now flanked by a couple of slim, smart and modern LED headlamps that wrap around a little inwards. At the back of the vehicle, the Lincoln MKZ really does boast a look all its own that really doesn't resemble anything else in the segment.
The interior is one of the biggest things that will make people's minds up about if a car really does cut it as a luxury offering, so it's got to stand out from mass-market models, perhaps especially any it may be based upon. The cabin of the Lincoln MKZ is certainly as stylish and luxurious as you'd hope it would be. With the Chalet, Thoroughbred, and Vineyard Lincoln Black Label themes, the Lincoln MKZ has an attractive collection of coordinated trims and surfaces allowing buyers to exercise some element of personalization over their car. If you're doing a fairly lengthy drive between destinations such as Los Angeles to Monterey or San Francisco to Yosemite, you'll arrive at your destination as fresh and relaxed as you were when you set off in the Lincoln MKZ. If you want to venture across the state line for a trip into the sweltering heat of the desert to Phoenix or Las Vegas, the air conditioned opulence of the Lincoln MKZ cabin is exactly what you need.
Scorching straight line speed and blistering performance are not essential features for a luxury sedan, but the engines do require power in reserve so the ride and whole driving experience is as smooth and refined as luxury car customers expect and demand. That's not a problem here for the Lincoln MKZ though, as the standard powerplant is a 245 horsepower 2.0-liter inline-four that can easily be mistaken for a V-6. Beyond the Premiere trim there's a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V-6 that really ups the power ante to 350 horsepower, although it can go up to as much as 400 horsepower with all-wheel drive versions of the Lincoln MKZ. A six-speed SelectShift automatic transmission with paddle activation is standard with all models, while the Premiere, Select and Reserve trims can be specified as front or all-wheel drive. This all means the Lincoln MKZ offers the perfect blend of comfort, performance and great driving characteristics for the 90 mile drive up the Pacific Coast Highway through Big Sur to Carmel and Pebble Beach. It's a challenging drive with stunning scenery, so it's only right to make the most of it by driving it in the right car.
A really great road trip is a circular route taking in San Diego, Los Angeles, Monterey Bay, San Francisco, Yosemite, Las Vegas, and back to San Diego. That's a lot of driving, so fuel-economy can be a big consideration. The very best fuel-economy ratings for Lincoln MKZ therefore come from the Hybrid, which gets EPA-estimated figures as good as 41 mpg in the city, 38 mpg on the highway, and 40 mpg combined.* But the standard four-cylinder isn't bad either with front-drive models getting 21/31/24 mpg.
A road trip around Southern California is one of those vacations you simply have to do at some point if you love driving and fabulous places to visit. The 2017 Lincoln MKZ is the perfect car for the occasion and it's available now from South Bay Lincoln, the premier Lincoln dealership serving Long Beach.
